About Report Hornet
Report Hornet is a free citizen platform for reporting Asian hornet nests. This page says who makes it, how the guides are written and what the limits of the data we publish are.
Why this site exists
The Asian hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax) is a major predator of honeybees in Europe and has been an invasive alien species under French law since March 2025. Controlling it starts with finding the nests, and finding them relies on residents: that is where the project began.
Report Hornet lets anyone report a nest in a minute without an account, follow reports on a public map and find a pest control company by area. The service is free for residents and beekeepers alike.
Who makes Report Hornet
Report Hornet is an independent project, born in the beekeeping world and run by a small volunteer team. The site is not tied to any pest control company and takes no commission on interventions. Companies listed in the directory register themselves and are reviewed before publication.
How the guides are written
The guides are written by the Report Hornet team from public, checkable sources, cited at the end of each guide. Each guide carries the date of its last review; that date only changes when the text actually changes.
- Sources used: the French National Museum of Natural History and INPN for the biology of the species, Légifrance for the law, INRAE and ITSAP for trapping, the French health insurance service (Ameli) for health advice.
- Price ranges are orders of magnitude observed on the market, not contractual rates.
- The guides replace neither medical advice after a sting nor your local council's or prefecture's answer on a specific situation.
- Found an error or a more recent source? Write to us; we correct it and date the change.
What the data says
Reports shown on the map are contributed by the public: they are not verified one by one and may contain location or identification errors. They show a trend, not an official survey, and do not replace the monitoring schemes run by health bodies and local authorities.
